I made my mother make those syrupy Sugar Pancakes everyday when I was a kid. These high in energy pancakes are easy to make and delicious beyond anything you ever had. Make the sun, moon and stars sugar pancakes and surprise your kids!
Ingredients for Sugar Pancake for Kids
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
In a shallow bowl, put the flour. Add water and knead into a dough. Make smaller dough from it.
Spread 2 teaspoons sugar on it and cover it with the other rolled-out dough.
Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Cook the pancake till one side has brown spots. Flip it over. Spread 1/2 teaspoon oil over the cooked side.
When the other side is cooked, flip and apply oil.
When both the sides are light brown, remove from heat. The sugar will have dissolved and turned into a syrup. Most likely the sugar as it turns into a syrup in the heat will spread over onto the pan. If that happens, bring the pancake over the syrup to let it soak it. That will coat the pancake in sugar syrup, making it more delicious!
To make different shaped pancakes, cut out rounds and half-moons using a large cap or a small bowl. Cut out your work by rolling out a large dough and cutting out many shapes from it. Remember that you will need to cut out two shapes of the same size. A neat trick is to dry the rolled-out dough using dry flour, fold it and cut out shapes. You will get two identical shapes in one go.
