Papdi Recipe/Crispy Salted Crackers

Crispy salted crackers perfect to be had with tea. Choti Mathri homemade snack can be stored for 1-2 months.


  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon clarified butter or vegetable oil
  • 3 pinches salt
  • Oil for frying


Mix flour and salt. Add water little by little to make a dough. Add 1 tablespoon oil and knead the dough. Cover and let it settle for 10 minutes.

Knead it once more.

Make very small doughs from the big dough.

Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough, but don’t roll it thin.

On the rolled out dough, make cuts using a knife. This will keep it from puffing up during frying.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok. Deep fry the rolled out doughs, 3 or 4 at a time till they turn golden brown.

Let them cool before storing. You can store them for 1-2 months in an air-tight container.
