Crispy fried flat bread made with whole wheat flour. Best accompanied with potato curry.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons clarified butter or vegetable oil
  • 3 pinches salt
  • Oil for frying

Method

Mix flour and salt. Add water little by little to make a hard dough. Add 2 tablespoons oil and knead. Cover and let it settle for 10 minutes.

Knead it once more into a dough.

Make smaller doughs from the big dough. The dough for the puri are smaller than those for chapati.

Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough. Instead of using dry flour to keep it from getting sticky, use oil.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok. Deep fry the rolled out doughs one at a time till they turn golden brown.

Serve hot with potato curry!
